Before the monad my shaping was without direction, I knew there was a feeling I wished to achieve so I floated from one design to another but I was always confronted with a glass ceiling, that’s not to say there were not great moments but overall I was left mostly disenchanted with the design principles of the boards I was attempting to create.
The salsa twin is a collaboration between myself and Jasson Salisbury. Coming into winter and having spent the best part of 12 months exclusively riding the Monad, Salsa wanted something with a bit more length and paddle power to tackle the winter swells. Having ridden a lot of round tails whilst living in Indonesia he was keen to explore that avenue again but didn’t want to disengage from the feelings he was getting on a twin fin. The first iteration of the Salsa Twin was May 2017 and since then the board has evolved to become arguably the most versatile design I make.
From an early age i loved the sensation of riding longer channel bottom surfboards. My first surf trip to Indonesia as an 18 year old i took a 7’0 Channel bottom shaped by master craftsman Terry Glass and from that moment on channel bottoms have been my preferred board in conditions where the waves have some energy, the drive and acceleration in my opinion is unmatched. My designs draw inspiration from Channel bottom pioneers such as Al Byrne and Jim pollard, these design elements have been proven time and time again by some of the best surfers on the planet and i truly believe that the introduction of channels was a major development is surfboard design.
The Infinite Jest is a board designed specifically to be surfed in below average waves. The board features a slight S-deck with the thickness and buoyancy situated between your feet, this enables ease of paddling and gives the board very positive acceleration in small waves. A moderately deep single concave runs from nose to tail, straightening the centre line of the board and creating lift and speed. If riding a longboard or a midlength is not your thing, then the Infinite Jest is a board thats going to get you out on even the smallest days and leave you with a grin from ear to ear.
